Closet Devotions

For Thursday, I’d like everyone to read the first chapter, Introduction: Sacred Eroticisms, of Richard Rambuss’s Closet Devotions (Duke University Press, 1998) in addition to the selections from Deep Listeners. Those of you with a knowledge or interest in 16th and 17th century Christian mysticism and eroticism (e.g. Teresa de Avila) should come prepared to discuss. N.B. — this tradition was not limited to Catholics.
